About Maya's Belly Dancing

Our journey unfolds in 2001, in the heart-warming heartlands of Alabama. 

Here, Maya, our belly dance virtuoso, embarked on her mission to spread the joy of this ancient art form. By 2007, her dream blossomed into a vibrant studio, becoming a sanctuary for dance enthusiasts. 

 In 2018, Maya moved to Richmond, VA, and began teaching belly dance, quickly establishing a vibrant and thriving dance community. 

Now, let's shimmy into the spotlight with Maya (Deise Russell). Starting her dance odyssey at 18 in Brazil, she didn't just learn belly dancing; she lived it. 

Maya's pursuit of excellence in belly dance led her not only to Egypt, the epicenter of the art form, but also to learning from renowned teachers globally, including many in the USA.  Her illustrious mentors include Ansuya, Aziza, Jillina, Jim Boz, Khaled Mahmoud, Tito Seif, Leila of Cairo, Aida Nour, Princess Farhana, Saida Helou, Soraya, Sahra Saeeda, Mahmoud Reda, Farida Fahmy, and many more. 

Amidst this star-studded dance journey, Maya is excited to open her new studio in Midlothian, VA. Here, belly dance is more than a workout; it's a celebration of life, community, and unbridled joy.

But Maya's talents transcend dance. She's also a brainy powerhouse, pursuing a PhD in Quantum Morphogenetic Physics. And, as a neurofeedback trainer, she's opening Tranquility Neurofeedback ( HOME (deiserussell.com) right beside Maya's Belly Dancing. Imagine a place where brainwaves dance to the rhythm of joy!
